Important Information

In the Globe Theatre the roof of the stage and all galleries are held up by pillars and there is no seat in the theatre from which the action is not obscured at some point.

In the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse all galleries are held up by pillars. The authentic shape of the galleries and auditorium means that some seats are at an acute angle to the stage, which is reflected in the pricing structure. As part of recreating seventeenth century performance conditions there is no seat from which the action may not be obscured at some point.

In the Globe Theatre all seats are covered, but the theatre is open to the elements and performances continue whatever the weather. Umbrellas are not permitted but rain macs may be purchased in the theatre.

The Sam Wanamaker Playhouse is an indoor venue, lit with candlelight.

In the Globe Theatre there are 28 steps to the middle gallery and 50 steps to the upper gallery.

In the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse there are 15 steps to the lower gallery and 34 steps to the upper gallery.

If you have problems climbing stairs or suffer from vertigo you are advised to request tickets in the lower gallery, (Globe Theatre) and the pit, (Sam Wanamaker Playhouse)

If you require mobility assistance to your seats please inform the box office or Duty House Manager upon arrival at the Globe.

Seating and Standing
In the Globe Theatre seating consists of wooden benches. Yard tickets are standing only. Please do not bring shooting sticks or chairs.

In the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse seating on all levels consists of cushioned wooden benches, some of which do not have backs. Upper gallery standing tickets are fixed positions.

A cloakroom is available for patrons attending performances in either the Globe Theatre or the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse. Large bags must be left in the cloakroom. Patrons attending performances at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse are strongly encouraged to leave all coats (free of charge) and bags in the cloakroom (a small charge will apply) for your comfort and convenience. Shakespeare’s Globe reserves the right to refuse oversized or obstructive items into either theatre. Shakespeare’s Globe cannot be held responsible for any personal items brought to the venue, or left in the cloakroom.

In the Globe Theatre a ticket is required for anyone aged 3 and over. If your child cries or causes a disturbance you will be asked to leave and may not be readmitted to the theatre.

In the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse children under the age of 6 cannot be admitted into the auditorium.

Drinking in the theatre
Glass is not permitted in the Globe Theatre. Items should not be placed on the stage.

Drinks may be taken into the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse however glasses and glass bottles are not permitted in the auditorium. Food must not be taken into the auditorium.
